Website Tips & Techniques | Smashing Magazine

I wanted to share this online magazine I came across that is a must-read online source for any creative professional or design geek out there. Smashing Magazine is an online magazine and blog dedicated to all things design. This frequently updated site covers everything from lists of inspirational design to HTML tutorials. The navigation of the Smashing website divides the articles into nine categories: graphics, design showcases, inspiration, fonts, how-to, CSS, developer’s toolbox, freebies and tutorials. The articles are often lists of even more articles from around the web, so Smashing Mag does a lot of the research for you.

Here are some recent articles that caught my eye !

Pittsburgh Photography Events | Parish Kohanim

ASMP Pittsburgh presents a night with Parish Kohanim, one of Canon’s Explorers of Light Photographers. Parish will show and discuss his artful approach to imagery and how he incorporates a fine art approach to commercial photography. Currently he is concentrating on fine art and gallery works. The program will run approximately an hour and a half, with questions and answers to follow the presentation. Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired by this great artist. It is a rare opportunity when we have a chance to bring in a highly distinguished Photographer and hear his insights on his professional approach and vision so please be part of this event so that we can continue to bring great programs like this one to Pittsburgh. Photography Software | High Dynamic Range Software

I recently purchased Photomatix which is software that is used to create high dynamic range imagery. High Dynamic Range or HDR is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques or photographic prints. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight. Hdr Soft makes Photomatix as a stand alone version as well as a plugin for photoshop, adobe lightroom, and apple aperture.

Website Tips | Understanding Your Camera’s Histogram

I am sure for some of you out there, the histogram feature on the back of your digital SLR camera is a feature that is often overlooked or misunderstood. I used to be stumped on how to read it, and more importantly how to rely on it when taking photographs. I recently found an informative article that gives an in depth explanation of how to read and understand the histogram, provided by The Professional Photographer blog (
