Pittsburgh Headshot Photography | Matt’s Session

This recent session is of my friend Matt who was in need of some updated headshots. Matt is currently in the process of auditioning for minor acting roles in some of the upcoming movie productions that are being filmed in the Pittsburgh area this summer. Activity this year is already starting to pick up with “Dust to Dust”, starring Christian Bale which is underway along with a Focus Feature film called Promise Land, including other films that haven’t officially been announced yet.  The PA film tax credit continues to bring productions into Pittsburgh which are presenting great opportunities for local actors like Matt.

Pittsburgh Musician Photography | Behind The Scenes of A Musician

I was looking to capture a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it means to be a musician.  Songs and melodies aren’t rehearsed or tinkered with from “9 to 5” for a working musician, rather, the thought is constant and an idea can come at any time.  For Jim, that can mean 7:00 AM on a Thursday morning before coffee, a shower or even getting dressed.

Pittsburgh Musician Photography | Bastard Bearded Irishmen

Recently, I had a chance to capture some in-studio shots of the Bastard Bearded Irishmen as they embark on recording their second full-length album. It was interesting to get a behind-the-scenes perspective of the sound checks, setup and overall production of what goes into recording a record.

The Thunderbird House has a unique feel all its own: a small, Civil War-era house that has been converted into a two-story recording studio.  The space comes to life with string lights, lanterns and a variety of thick and thin, black and multicolored cables that run every which way as if it was a mad scientist’s lab.  The tone was set perfectly with a comfortable vibe.

If you haven’t heard the Bastard Bearded Irishmen yet, they’re a Pittsburgh-based Irish rock n’ roll band that blends rock, punk and folk with traditional and contemporary Celtic. They’ve been together since 2008 and have played citywide events such as the Pittsburgh Irish Festival and Shamrockin’.  They have opened for the Dropkick Murphys, played the WDVE Morning Show, headlined 105.9 the X’s Halloween Party and hope to make even bigger waves in 2012.

Pittsburgh Product Photography | Abstract Silhouette Series

I came across a link the other day which listed tips & ideas to kickstart your photog creative juices and I went about trying one of them out.  The link talked about placing a white piece of paper over a window (one that gets sunlight) and using that setup as a makeshift studio light source.  So i put that link to the test, ripped off some white seemless background paper from my roll and taped it to my window (one that caught a good bit of afternoon sunlight).  With that simple studio-esq lighting setup I handpicked some items around the house to photograph that provided some nice texture & shape to see what i could come up with.  In the end I feel I captured some interested shots. This lesson reminded me that creative inspiration is all around, you just have to be aware of it.
